Checkout Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 28, 2026

Checkout is operated by Astretto LLC. Checkout includes the Checkout iOS app and the public Checkout website at checkoutrankings.com. Checkout helps people scan, upload, rate, search, compare, and share grocery and household product rankings. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, what may become part of Checkout's shared product database, how social profile features work, how the website and ads work, and how account deletion works.

Information We Collect

We may collect the following information when you use Checkout:

  • Account information, such as your user ID, email address, display name, Checkout @ handle, profile image, sign-in provider, role, moderation status, and account status.
  • Authentication information from supported sign-in providers, including Apple Sign In and Google Sign-In. We use this to create and secure your Checkout account.
  • Profile and social information, such as your friend connections, friend requests, profile privacy settings, anonymous review setting, whether you allow friend requests, whether you share ratings with friends, profile counts, and friend activity shown inside Checkout.
  • Product contribution data, such as product names, brands, barcodes, categories, store or purchase-location selections, ingredients, nutrition facts, product tags, reports, edit requests, and related metadata.
  • Product photos that you choose to upload, including front label, ingredients label, and nutrition label images.
  • Rating and community data, such as ratings, comments, favorites, scans, leaderboard activity, product reports, feedback, and support messages.
  • App telemetry and diagnostic data, such as app events, error reports, performance signals, device or app version information, and network/server failure details.
  • Website usage information, such as pages viewed, searches, referring pages, browser or device information, approximate location inferred from IP address, cookie or advertising identifiers where enabled, and performance or diagnostic events.
  • Coffee Supporter subscription status information if you choose to support Checkout. App Store purchases are processed by Apple; we may store receipt, transaction, entitlement, renewal, expiration, or subscription status information needed to provide the supporter badge, restore purchases, handle support, and prevent abuse.
  • Local app preference information stored on your device, such as Ingredient Checker preferences, selected settings, cached sessions, or similar local state.

Checkout's Ingredient Checker preferences are intended to stay on your device unless you choose to include that information in feedback, support, or another submission.

Photos, Camera, And AI-Assisted Parsing

Checkout uses your camera when you choose to scan a barcode or capture product photos. Product photos are uploaded only when you choose to continue through the product upload flow.

Checkout may use AI-assisted parsing to read labels, extract ingredients and nutrition details, identify product names and brands, and suggest category placement. Product photos and draft product data may be sent to Checkout's backend and AI service providers for this purpose. The app is designed to show a review step before a new product is saved, but AI output can still be incomplete or incorrect.

Checkout does not use AI-assisted parsing to make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects about you. AI output is used to help fill product drafts, improve product data, and assist moderation or category quality workflows.

How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Operate product scanning, upload, search, ranking, rating, profile, favorites, leaderboard, and account features.
  • Operate the public Checkout website, including product pages, category pages, review guides, search pages, ads, SEO metadata, and policy pages linked from the app.
  • Operate Checkout @ handles, profile pages, friend search, friend requests, friend lists, friend activity, and profile privacy controls.
  • Build and maintain Checkout's shared product ranking database.
  • Parse product labels, improve category matching, prevent duplicate categories, and maintain the category hierarchy.
  • Show community rankings, ratings, review counts, category rankings, and admin-curated Checkout Top Picks.
  • Show Coffee Supporter profile badges when a user has an active optional support subscription.
  • Moderate product uploads, photos, ratings, reviews, reports, edit requests, and account activity.
  • Respond to support, feedback, account, privacy, and product removal requests.
  • Improve app reliability, performance, safety, category quality, and product experience.
  • Measure website traffic, improve search and discovery, understand content performance, and support advertising or sponsorship operations.
  • Protect Checkout, users, and infrastructure from spam, fraud, abuse, and security issues.

Shared Product Database

Product uploads are intended to become part of Checkout's shared product database. Product pages, product photos, names, brands, barcodes, ingredients, nutrition details, category placement, rankings, ratings, review counts, and related product data may be visible to other users.

If you delete your account, product pages and product photos you contributed may remain available because they support the shared rankings used by other shoppers. Where possible, Checkout unlinks those product uploads from your account. You can contact us to request review or removal of product uploads or photos you contributed. We may remove, edit, merge, retain, or anonymize product records when appropriate for privacy, moderation, product quality, legal, security, intellectual property, or operational reasons.

Profiles, Friends, And Visibility

Checkout uses unique @ handles so users can find and add each other without sharing email addresses. Your handle, profile image or avatar, profile counts, public badges, and public ranking activity may be visible in the app depending on your settings and where your activity appears.

When you use Friends, you can search for handles, send requests, accept or decline requests, remove friends, and view friend activity. Accepted friends may be able to see your handle, profile information, profile counts, and product ratings you choose to share with friends.

Checkout currently offers profile privacy controls:

  • Private Profile hides your profile from handle search, blocks new friend requests, and keeps your ratings out of friend activity.
  • Anonymous Reviews hides your handle and profile identity from public product reviews and leaderboards where supported, and prevents your ratings from being shared in friend activity.
  • Share Ratings With Friends controls whether accepted friends can see your ratings in friend activity and profile ranking views when your profile is not private or anonymous.
  • Allow Friend Requests controls whether other users can send you new friend requests when your profile is not private.

These controls affect in-app visibility, but they do not remove shared product records, product photos, aggregate rankings, moderation records, support records, backups, or information already viewed by other users.

Admin-Curated Picks

Checkout may include editorial or admin-curated labels, such as Checkout Top Pick or featured rankings. These labels are part of the product experience and may be based on category rankings, product quality review, community data, or Checkout's own curation.

Coffee Supporter Subscription

Checkout may offer an optional Coffee Supporter auto-renewable subscription through Apple's in-app purchase system. This subscription is intended to help support ongoing development and operating costs. It does not unlock core scanning, ranking, upload, search, or rating features. If active, Checkout may show a Coffee Supporter badge or similar supporter mark on your profile or supported community surfaces.

Apple processes subscription payments, renewals, cancellations, refunds, and billing information. Checkout does not receive your full payment card information from Apple. We may receive or store limited transaction, receipt, entitlement, renewal, expiration, refund, or subscription status information needed to confirm and maintain the supporter badge, restore purchases, respond to support requests, and comply with legal, tax, security, or platform requirements.

Deleting your Checkout account does not cancel an active Apple App Store subscription. You must manage or cancel App Store subscriptions through Apple.

Website, Advertising, And Cookies

The Checkout website publishes public product, category, ranking, and review-guide pages so people can discover community-powered grocery rankings without installing the app. Website pages may include product information, uploaded product photos, aggregate ratings, category rankings, editorial copy, search results, and advertising placements.

The website may use cookies, local storage, pixels, server logs, analytics tools, and advertising technologies to operate the site, remember basic preferences, measure traffic, improve performance, prevent abuse, and show or measure ads. Advertising partners, including Google AdSense or similar ad providers if enabled, may use cookies or identifiers to serve, personalize, limit, or measure ads according to their own policies and your browser, device, consent, and ad settings. Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to Checkout or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads based on visits to Checkout and other sites. You can manage Google ad personalization through Google Ads Settings, and you can manage browser cookies or other third-party personalized advertising choices through your browser, device, consent controls, and industry opt-out tools where available.

Checkout does not receive your full payment card information from website ads or from Apple App Store subscription processing. Ads and external links may take you to third-party sites or services governed by their own privacy policies.

Checkout's iOS app is not configured to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies for advertising or advertising measurement. If that changes, Checkout will update its App Store privacy information and request permission where required.

Third-Party Services

Checkout may use service providers for:

  • Authentication, including Apple Sign In and Google Sign-In.
  • Backend database, storage, serverless functions, and authentication infrastructure, including Supabase.
  • Website hosting, deployment, analytics, performance, security, and search infrastructure, including Vercel or similar providers.
  • AI-assisted product parsing and categorization, including Google Gemini or similar AI providers.
  • Email, support, feedback, moderation, telemetry, diagnostics, advertising, and payment or subscription processing.
  • Apple App Store purchase and subscription infrastructure for optional Coffee Supporter subscriptions.
  • Advertising and measurement providers, including Google AdSense, Google Ads, Google Analytics, or similar services if enabled.

These providers process information as needed to provide Checkout features, infrastructure, security, ads, measurement, and support. If you open external community links, ads, or third-party sites, your use of those services is governed by their own policies.

Information may be processed in the United States and other countries where Checkout or its service providers operate.

Account Deletion

You can start account deletion in the app from Profile -> Delete Account.

When account deletion is processed, Checkout removes or unlinks account-scoped information such as your user profile, account identifiers, saved account state, favorites, friend connections, friend requests, and other user-specific records where feasible. Ratings may be anonymized and comments may be removed. Product uploads may remain in the shared product database after they are unlinked from your account.

Account deletion does not delete your Apple ID, Google account, App Store purchase history, active App Store subscriptions, or records we are required or permitted to retain for legal, security, billing, backup, moderation, dispute, fraud-prevention, or operational reasons.

Data Retention

We keep account information while your account is active. We may retain shared product database records, anonymized or aggregated ranking data, telemetry, logs, backups, moderation records, support records, and legal/security records for as long as reasonably needed for Checkout's operation, safety, legal compliance, dispute resolution, and product quality.

Your Choices And Privacy Rights

You can:

  • Edit your Checkout @ handle in the app.
  • Manage friends, friend requests, profile privacy, anonymous review mode, friend request availability, and rating sharing from Profile.
  • Delete your account from the Profile screen.

  • Contact us to request review or removal of product uploads or photos you contributed.
  • Contact us to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection, or review of personal information where those rights apply under your local law.

  • Stop using camera or photo features by not granting or by revoking device permissions.
  • Manage browser cookies, advertising personalization, analytics choices, and site storage through your browser, device, consent, or ad settings where available.

Checkout does not sell personal information for money. Some website advertising or measurement activity may be considered a "sale," "sharing," or "targeted advertising" under certain privacy laws. You can contact us about opt-out requests, and you can also use the cookie, browser, device, and ad controls described above.

Children

Checkout is not directed to children under 13. Some product categories may include alcohol or other age-sensitive products. Users are responsible for following applicable laws and age restrictions.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect information. No app, network, or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy as Checkout changes. The updated policy will show a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of Checkout after an update means the updated policy applies.
